Sample "Blue Jay In My Mailbox"
The Story: One Spring, I walked out to my mailbox to find a Blue Jay flying round and round trying to keep me from getting my mail! It seemed natural to turn that situation into a children's song! (Adults like it too!)

1) I went out to my mailbox, my mailbox, my mailbox,
I went out to my mailbox, on a fine Spring Day
And in it there was a bird - I didn’t say a word -
I didn’t want to scare that bird away
It was a lovely Momma Blue Jay.
CHORUS: And she said “Go away! Go away! I need a place for my eggs to lay”
And I said “Fly away! Fly away! This isn’t a place for a baby Blue Jay.”
2) I went back to my mailbox, my mailbox, my mailbox,
I went back to my mailbox, that next Spring Day
And in it, there was a nest! I never would have guessed!
That Momma bird was busy yesterday!
Her nest was built in just one night and day!
CHORUS: And she said “Go away! Go away! I need a place for my eggs to lay”
And I said “Fly away! Fly away! This isn’t a place for a baby Blue Jay.”
3) Then, I went back to my mailbox, my mailbox, my mailbox,
I went back to my mailbox, one fine Spring Day.
And in it were 3 eggs, Momma bird stood on one leg
To shoo away whomever came her way…
To shoo away whomever came her way
CHORUS - change 1: And she said “Go away! Go away! I need a place for my eggs to stay”
And I said “Fly away! Fly away! This isn’t a place for a baby Blue Jay.”
4) So, I went back to my mailbox, my mailbox, my mailbox,
I went back to my mailbox, that fine Spring Day
And there were 3 baby birds, I didn’t say a word
That Momma bird had surely got her way!
Those baby birds looked like they want to stay!
CHORUS - change 2: And she said “Go away! Go away! I need a place for my babies to stay”
And I said “Fly away! Fly away! This isn’t a place for a baby Blue Jay.”
BRIDGE/INTERLUDE: Summer came, and then, the Fall. Soon the snow was on the ground.
Then, Winter faded, and the sky turned blue, soon Spring came back around
5) And, I went out to my mailbox, my mailbox, my mailbox,
I went out to my mailbox, one fine Spring Day
And in it there was that bird - I didn’t say a word –
I gave up trying to shoo that bird away!
My mailbox was the home for Momma Jay.
CHORUS - change 3: And she said “Go away! Go away! I need a place for my eggs to lay”
(SPOKEN)
I shook my head and I said.... "It's okay! Don't fly away! You can make a home for your baby Blue Jays
Yes, I said, "It's okay! You can stay! This can be the home for your baby Blue Jays!"
